Sarah Osborne’s Charge
Posted by Tom Gordon

Research Summary:
Sarah Osborne was the 3rd person accused of witchcraft in Salem. Osborne was a frail, old woman. She was always sick, so she was a shut-in, and also very surprised when a warrant was issued on March 1, 1691, commanding her to meet John Hathorne and Jonathan Corwin, the local magistrates, for questioning.

Perhaps she was arrested because she did not go to church, perhaps she was not. All that is known is that she admitted to contacting the occult. After questioning, Osborne was also accused by Tituba, perhaps because of hallucinations brought about by years of fortune-telling.
